Professor Hans-Bernd Brosius and his team focus on media use and effects. Their research and teaching interests can be divided into four main research areas:

Political Communication: the study of potential risks and opportunities due to the increasing importance of the media and the influence of the risks and opportunities on the political system.
Health Communication: the presentation and effects of health-related media content, especially the relationship between media use, the effectiveness of prevention measures, and public health.
Computer-mediated Communication: the social impact of digitization, especially regarding changes in production and distribution of media content as well as users’ consumption habits.
Media Psychology and Reception: the selection, perception, experience and effect of media content both at the individual and the societal level.

In addition, a particular focus is on the use and development of innovative research methods.
