Information for Visiting Researchers

The Department of Media and Communication (IfKW) warmly welcomes visiting scholars and guest researchers from other institutions to informally visit, for a limited period of time (generally ranging from one week to one year).

Visits and research stays are open to researchers of all academic ranks, including the Professorial, Reader, (Senior) Lecturer, and Post-Doc level, as well as advanced doctoral students.

Visiting scholars have access to the full spectrum of academic resources at IfKW and LMU. We will make an effort to provide visiting scholars with office space at the Department. Visitors can also attend all academic events held at the Department and in other parts of the University. Assistance will also be given to connect visitors to other relevant departments, and programs at LMU as appropriate. It is important to note, however, that the Department cannot provide any financial support for visitors unless other arrangements are made.

Those planning to visit IfKW should secure the support of a professor working at the Department to act as their sponsor. Alternatively, interested candidates may contact the IfKW Research Director (currently: Professor Thomas Hanitzsch) for more information.

Since a visit to or a research stay at IfKW necessitates certain practical arrangements, and because the number of visitors we can accommodate is limited, we encourage interested researchers to express intent well in advance of their desired visits (particularly in the case of longer visits).

Practical Issues

Therefore please fill in the following application form (German) and send it by e-mail to LMU's IT Helpdesk: it-servicedesk@lmu.de (preferably one week prior to your arrival at IfKW).
