The Police Crime Statistic show a clear increase in politically motivated crimes with internet reference in recent years. Due to the enormous amount of police and intelligence-relevant content that is exchanged on the Internet every day, it has become impossible to view all content sufficiently by manual means. Investigating authorities need tools, that are tailored to their needs and that allow for pre-filtering and support them in criminal prosecution. For the classification of large amounts of data, solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used.
The goal of KISTRA is to research the opportunities and framework conditions for the ethically and legally justifiable use of artificial intelligence systems by investigating authorities for detection, prevention and prosecution of criminal offences.
According to this objective, the LMU undertakes the social accompanying research and contributes to the overall project by investigating the conditions of perception and effects of hate on the Internet.
Project term: July 2020 – June 2023
